As a child, Ahmed was enrolled at Wimbledon High School, a girls' independent school. In 1986, she joined St Edmund Hall, Oxford. There she majored in English and she graduated from there in 1989. Later on she was named the reporter on Newsnight and the Today programme. She also served them as a news correspondent and a presenter on BBC World and BBC News 24. She worked there till the end of 1997. After her marriage, she was named the BBC's Los Angeles correspondent and covered the O. J. Simpson trial. In the early 2000, she joined Channel 4 News. In 2002, she was named the presenter. At the end of 2012, she was named the presenter of Newswatch on the BBC News channel. She is also working at Kingston University as a Visiting Professor of Journalism. She is now aged 48 years old and her net worth is in millions.
