Alan Rickman was born on 21 February 1946, in Hammersmith, London, England, to Margaret Doreen Rose and Bernard Rickman. He is English and is of diverse descent.
Rickman had two siblings, David and Michael, and a sister, Sheila. When he was eight years of age, Rickman's father died of lung disease, leaving his mom to raise him and his three siblings.

Prior to his death, he suffered a minor stroke in August 2015 and was also later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which was only revealed to his closest friends and family members.
Likewise, the two of the upcoming films he had been working on, Eye in the Sky and Alice Through the Looking Glass, were dedicated to him.
