At the age of 16, Albert Pujols shifted to the United States from the Dominican Republic along with his family and settled in Independence, Missouri. Speaking little English, his transitions to life in America was helped by baseball career and he turned out to be a phenomenon from the start.
Albert batted over 500 in his first season at "Fort Osage High School" in Independence and earned all-state honors twice and fro the same school, he did his schooling. Later, he joined Maple Woods Community College in the Kansas City, where he played baseball for one season before St. Louis Cardinals selected him.
