Lindegaard started his professional career with his hometown club "Odense Boldklub" from which he made his Danish Superliga debut on 19 November 2006 against Silkeborg IF, and won the match by 3-1.

Most of the time he spent with the club OB, he was replaced by the Polish goalkeeper Arek Onsyzko. It seemed Lindegaard got his position back permanently after Onsyzko was sacked by the club in 2009 due to being convicted of assaulting his wife. However, after Roy Carrol joined the team, he was forced to move on from the team in 2009. 

In 2009, Anders joined Norwegian club Aalesunds FK on loan and was later appointed ermanently. In the same year he joined the club, he won the Norwegian Football Cup where he played the vital role as a keeper on claiming the trophy. For his untiring performance from the club, he was rewarded as the Goalkeeper of the Year in both Norway and Denmark in 2010.

Lindegaard then traded to the Premier League club Manchester United in 2010, where it was reported that he signed the three and a half year contract with the team on 27 November 2010 for around £3.5 million (estimated).

Lindegaard represented Denmark at international level for the first time on 13 October 2002 against Switzerland; played UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualifier. With the under-19 team, he played a total of six youth international games until September 2003.

He made his senior team debut in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier against Iceland on 7 September 2010; which the Danish team won by 1-0.

Lindegaard got a chance to play against Portugal in his second consecutive game after the starting goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen got injured. Lindegaard contributed in many critical saves, however, conceded a goal in 85th minute to the football legend Cristiano Ronaldo and lose the game by 1-3.  

As far asLindegaard's personal life is concerned, he is a married man; married to his longtime girlfriend Misse Beqiri in June 2014. His wife Beqiri is a Swedish model of Albanian roots and an actress known for Housewives of Cheshire. The couple has been living separately after August 2016; before they separated, they welcomed their adorable son Julian.
