After a couple of years, Thompson began working with CNN Headline news as an evening anchor. Her contract with CNN created controversy in journalism circles, mostly because she had just one year of experience in journalism.
Thompson's numerous nude pictures and video clips from her movies spread on the Internet, which caused embarrassment for CNN. After that, she left the CNN, news channel in March 2002.
When she left the CNN, she began working for Court TV, introducing episodes of NYPD Blue and Forensic Files, as well as narrating the documentary series The System.
