After his high school, Andrew joined University of Melbourne with a major in economics. Later on he pursued his career in a market research. At the end of 1980s, he played an important role in a Young Liberal movement. He served as its State President for about a year from 1989. He also worked for Federal Policy Committee and broader party's Federal Council. He also played a crucial role in the formation of Australian Chernobyl Children's Relief Foundation in the late 1980s. This foundation provided the financial and medical help to victims of the Chernobyl disaster. In 2006, he ran for the state election but after his 2004 drink-driving incident came out, he lost Liberal Party pre-selection and was forced out from the parliamentary party.
