Andrew Olexander was born as Andrew Phillip Olexander in the early 1965 in Geelong, Australia. He was raised in Melbourne. He completed his high school graduation from Melbourne. He was an Australian and he was of Hungarian and Ukrainian descent.

After his high school, Andrew joined University of Melbourne with a major in economics. Later on he pursued his career in a market research. At the end of 1980s, he played an important role in a Young Liberal movement. He served as its State President for about a year from 1989.

He also worked for Federal Policy Committee and broader party's Federal Council. He also played a crucial role in the formation of Australian Chernobyl Children's Relief Foundation in the late 1980s. This foundation provided the financial and medical help to victims of the Chernobyl disaster.

Won the safe Liberal Legislative Council seat

In the late 1990s, he ran for the safe Liberal Legislative Council seat of Silvan Province. He won the pre election and he was elected in this post. At the end of 2002, he was promoted to the shadow ministry and he took control of the portfolios of Youth, Arts and Consumer Affairs.

Crashed his taxpayer funded car

In 2004, he had one of the bad incidents of his life. On 11th of July 2004, he was heavily drunk and he drove his own car back home. While he was back to home, he crashed his taxpayer funded car into the four other cars that were parked in Port Melbourne.

Retired from Parliament

 In 2006, he ran for the state election but after his 2004 drink-driving incident came out, he lost Liberal Party pre-selection and was forced out from the parliamentary party. He announced his retirement from parliament at the end of 2006.
