In the 1970s, Wilson began dating Michael Fisher, the manager of Heart, and her younger sister Nancy was involved with lead guitarist Roger Fisher, Michael's younger brother. In 1979, they finally separated and she later claimed that Michael had fallen in love with another woman and they parted. She adopted her daughter Marie in 1991 and her son Dustin in 1998. Wilson finally married on 25 April 2015. She married Dean Wetter, a multi-generational community developer. This couple dated briefly in the eighties before they activate their relationship years later.
Wilson began her career with a local band, White Heart, in the early 1970s. However, this band changed its name to Hocus Pocus, and then in 1974, to Heart. The same year, her younger sister Nancy joined Heart and they moved to Canada. They recorded their debut album Dreamboat Annie in Vancouver in 1975 and released it in the United States the following year, with "Crazy on You" hitting No. 35 on the US charts. In 1977, they released their second album, Little Queen, and in 1978, Dog & Butterfly.
Wilson is also a solo artist. In 2006, she started recording her debut solo album, Hope & Glory, produced by Ben Mink and released by the Rounder (Zoe) Music Group on September 11, 2007. Three singles were released from the project, "Little Problems, Little Lies", "Isolation" and "Immigrant Song".
