Antony Funnell worked for CARE, an international humanitarian aid agency, for three years in the 1990s. Later, he got promoted to the director for external relations in the Australian branch of the organization. 

Antony then joined the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) network and became the senior producer for ABC TV's nightly satellite news service into the Asia Pacific region.

Funnell then became the host of ABC's Radio National Media Report.

In 2009, he became the presenter of Radio National's Future Tense and continues to do so as of 2019. Along with that, he is also the presenter of Radio National's monthly education podcast EdPod.

Antony in the two decades has also worked for many leading Australian programs such as AM, PM, the 7.30 Report, Background Briefing, and Radio National Breakfast. 

He has also traveled to the Russian border in Outer Mongolia and visited the Ali Curung community in the Northern Territory for ABC.
