The face of moderate Islam, Waleed Aly is a renowned writer and media presenter who married Susan Carland since 2002. Carland is a lady who transformed her religion from Christianity to Islam despite her mother’s strong denial. However, it wasn’t because of Aly, she had changed her religion long before she actually met him.

Despite the fact that Aly’s wife adores him so much, things weren’t always same for Aly. When he approached her for the first time, Carland replied by saying that she would not marry him even if he was the last person on the earth. However, Carland later apologized and asked him out.

The pair dated for a while and tied the knot in Melbourne Zoo in February 2002. The pair has two adorable children together. Aly never misses praising his wife. Once, he said that if Carland had Aly’s job, she would do much better than him. He also added that he wouldn’t have his job if his wife had it, thus he is happy that she doesn’t have his job as she is sharper, wittier, funnier, charming and likable.

Aly and Carland share a great bond as she accepts, that they are really close to each other. During an interview, she shared that she feels like she and Aly are in each other’s corner and they need each other as they are so much in love. There are no hints of divorce between the pair.

Susan Carland mother said not to marry a Muslim

However, you might be amazed to know that Carland and her mother’s relationship turned sour for 8 years after Carland changed her religion. Her mother once told her that she can even marry a drug dealer but not a Muslim. Even Carland used to think that Islam was violent, sexist and foreign. However, she turned into Muslim at 19. But, her relationship with her mother is great at present.

When asked about her religion transformation, Carland said that nature of God in Islam appealed her as there’s no intellectual division between mind, body, and soul as in Christianity. And is happy to be the part of Islam. As per her family life, she is happily living with Waleed with her children.
