Bill Cosby was born in middle class family as William Henry Cosby Jr. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America to Anna Pearl and William Henry Cosby Sr. His father was once a mess steward in the U.S. Navy. He is an American and is black.

1956

Joined Navy

While Bill was in Mary Channing Wister Public School, he was an avid sportsman. He was the class clown as well as the captain of baseball team and the track and field team. However, in 1956 he joined US Navy. He also served as a physical therapist in the Korean War.

1962

Began his stand up career

As his family condition was humble, he also worked as a selling produce, shining shoes, and stocking shelves at a supermarket. After being in Temple University for about a year, he quit Temple University and began pursuing his comedy career. He began his career as a standup comedian from 1962 at The Gaslight Cafe.

The married couple is the parents of five children, daughters; Erika Ranee, Erinn Chalene Cosby, Ensa Cosby, and Evin Harrah Cosby, and son Ennis Cosby. Their only son Ennis was murdered on January 16, 1997.

Bill is subjected to highly publicized sexual misconduct allegations since the mid-1960s. He has been accused by multiple women of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, and child sex abuse. During the series run, Bill also continued with his stand-up comedy and recorded a half-dozen record albums for Warner Bros. In Jun 1968, he was asked for a five-year contract renewal worth $3.5 million, which he turned down to record for his own record label.
