On the 25th of January 1964, Bill got married to the love of his life Camille Cosby. Camille Cosby is a television producer, author, and philanthropist. The married couple is the parents of five children, daughters; Erika Ranee, Erinn Chalene Cosby, Ensa Cosby, and Evin Harrah Cosby, and son Ennis Cosby. Their only son Ennis was murdered on January 16, 1997.

He began his acting career in 1965. That year, he appeared on NBC's adventure series I Spy. I Spy became the twenty-most watched shows that year, and Bill was announced as the recipient of three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama Series. During the series run, Bill also continued with his stand-up comedy and recorded a half-dozen record albums for Warner Bros. In Jun 1968, he was asked for a five-year contract renewal worth $3.5 million, which he turned down to record for his own record label.

He involved himself in creative control, co-producing the series. The show ran until 1992.
