Bill attended the California State University, in Northridge, where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism, along with his future co-anchor Sue Herera.

In 1981, Bill joined Financial News Network where he worked as an anchor for 10 years. During his period on FNN, he was nominated for a CableACE Award for his 1987 Stock Market Crash coverage.
