Melissa is a costume designer by profession. The couple, reportedly, first met in 2009 while attending Yale School of Drama and subsequently started an affair.

The National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers nominated actor proposed Melissa to marry him. The engagement was announced by Melissa through a tweet on 8 July 2015.

Within a year of their engagement, the couple finally exchanged their vows on 16 December 2015 in Los Angeles, California. Only their nearest and dearest friends and family members attended the wedding ceremony.
