Bruce Bochy was born as Bruce Douglas Bochy in the mid 1950s in Bussac-Forêt, France to Sgt. Major Gus Bochy and his beautiful wife. He grew up in Panama Canal Zone, South Carolina, northern Virginia, and Melbourne, Florida.

Won a state championship

While Bruce was in Melbourne, Florida, he joined Melbourne High School. He completed his high school graduation from there. Later on he joined Brevard Community College and then Eastern Florida State College. He became the state champion in 1975.

Was drafted by the Houston Astros

After being the state champion, he received an offer to play for Eddie Stanky but he turned pro as he was drafted to Houston Astros. He played for Houston Astros for about two years from 1978 as a catcher.

1982

Joined New York Mets

He also played for New York Mets and San Diego Padres. In the early 1980s, he was traded back to New York Mets but he signed a free agent contract with San Diego Padres in 1983.

Retired as a player

Began managing minor league system

Became the new coach of San Diego Padres

In 1993, he was named the third-base coach by the San Diego Padres and with the departure of Riggleman, he became the head manager of Padres for the 1995 season. He also became the youngest manager in the National League.
