After graduation, he found his first job at WGRD radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After being fired by the station, he worked for a short time for WLUM-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He changed his name to Bubba the Love Sponge legally in 1999 came after his eponymous show.
