On 17th of June 2005, Carl got married to Judy Chung. Judy Chung is a former producer at CNBC and MSNBC. As a married couple, they welcomed a twin daughter in 2009. They are happily married and are still together.
Carl received his formal education from Columbine High School. He graduated from there in 1989. Soon after his high school graduation, he joined University of Colorado. There he majored in political science and finally earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1993. While he was attending University of Colorado, he worked at National Public Radio as an editorial assistant. In 1991, he joined Boulder Daily Camera and served them as a reporter and columnist for the next two years. In 1994, he worked at The Wall Street Journal as a staff reporter. In 1999, he joined CNBC and began working as a correspondent of the program Business Center. He also worked at HBO Real Sports as a correspondent in the mid 2014. His net worth is said to be around $2.5 million.
