On the night of the murder on September 15, 2018, Collin Daniel Richards had camped near the Coldwater Golf Links where Celia Barquin Arozamena was also playing golf.
Her body was found in a pond on the same golf course with her golf bag just several meters away. She had stab wounds in her head, neck, and torso. A knife, the murder weapon, was also recovered later, which had previously been in the possession of Collin.
The police later found a bag in Richards' camping tent that had shorts drenched in Celia's blood.
He was discovered near a creek by a K-9 officer with fresh marks on his face and a deep wound in his left hand.
Richards was immediately arrested that evening and held in the Story County Jail from the next morning.
Richards' camping partner, recognized as 'D.B' by the police, informed that Richards had mentioned about an urge to kill a woman prior to the murder.
Collin had previously pleaded not guilty to the murder of Celia Barquin Arozamena. On March 13, 2019, he pleaded guilty via a letter to the judge.
