Corey Taylor, the lead vocalist, and lyricist of the Slipknot and Stone Sour is an American singer, actor, and author. One of the legendary heavy metal singers, Taylor possesses the second-widest vocal range of any known singer in popular music with a range of five and a half octaves beaten only by Mike Patton (six octaves).
Corey with the birth name Corey Todd Taylor was born to American father and Irish and Dutch, mother on December 8, 1973, in Des Moines, Iowa. Along with a sister, Corey's mother raised him. Taylor met his father for the first time when he was 30-year-old. Corey is of American nationality and mixed ethnicity, though his academic background is in shadows.
By the age of 15, while in high school Corey Taylor struggled with drug addiction (cocaine) and his grandmother took his custody and started living in grandmother's house in Des Moines. At the age of 18, Corey attempted to commit suicide but his ex-girlfriend's mother drove Corey Taylor to the hospital and saved him.
In 1992, when Corey was 19-year-old, he formed American hard rock band Stone Sour with the drummer Joel Ekman, bassist Shawn Economaki and Josh Rand in guitar. The band also recorded a demo album in 1993, and another in 1994.
But in 1997, after Joey Jordison, Shawn Crahan, and Mick Thomson to join Slipknot, Corey Taylor left the band and made his Slipknot gig debut on August 22, 1997. Initially the back vocalist, Corey Taylor released the band's debut album Slipknot on June 29, 1999, as a permanent vocalist which peaked number one on the Top Heatseekers chart and went double platinum in the U.S.
Taylor's second album with Slipknot; the album, Iowa, recorded at Sound City and Sound Image in Van Nuys, Los Angeles was released on August 28, 2001. It peaked number one on the UK Albums Chart and since Corey Taylor records with Slipknot.
Then in 2002, Corey Taylor returned to join his old band Stone Sour and released self-titled debut album on August 27, 2002, which peaked number 46 on the Billboard 200. With Stone Sour, Corey's another album with Come What(ever) May debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, released on August 1, 2006.
Associated with Slipknot and Stone Sour, Corey Taylor has also worked with several bands like Junk Beer Kidnap Band, Korn, Disturbed, Apocalyptica, Code Orange, Anthrax, and Soulfly.
In 2011, Taylor collaborated with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker on Barker's solo album Give the Drummer Some on the song On My Own. Also, Corey collaborated with Aaron Lewis while promoting Lewis' solo album, Town Line for a one night only acoustic duet show in July 2011.
Prominent in acting, Corey Taylor joined the cast of Fear Clinic on December 4, 2013, followed by his appearance in the Doctor Who episode Before the Flood in October 2015.
Talking about his personal life, Corey Taylor was married twice in his life. Taylor married his fiance (now ex-wife) Scarlett Stone on March 11, 2004. The former couple before their marriage welcomed their son Griffin Parker on September 17, 2002. Corey also has a daughter named Angeline from his mysterious previous affair.
After 3 years of marriage, they divorced in 2007. Then on November 13, 2009, Taylor married Stephanie Luby at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas but separated later. He announced via Twitter on December 28, 2017, that he and Stephanie were separated for 10 months and he started dating Cherrybombs creator and member, Alicia Dove.
