As a child, Craig was an avid athlete. He began taking karate lessons and finally won his brown belt few years later. Besides karate, he was also active in football and baseball. However, he began his interest in show business and acting and then he dropped out from there. He began his professional career as a comedian in 1971. He also worked as a The Groundlings comedy troupe and then formed his own comedy group with Barry Levinson, and Rudy De Luca. He has also been active in acting since 1971. He made his acting debut by starring the role of Sgt. O'Connor in the 1971 horror movie, The Return of Count Yorga.
