Damon is the son of an actor, Noel Herriman. He was raised well in his hometown in Adelaide by his parents. As his father worked as an actor, he was on the limelight since his birth. He began acting in local television commercials at the age of eight.

In 1980, Damon Herriman began working as the leading role of Frank Errol in The Sullivans just at the age of 10. He was nominated for three Logie Awards for his role in the television series The Sullivans.

He got his major role in the 1981 television series The Patchwork Hero. He debuted in silver screen from the movie Praise in 1998. He has worked in various television series and movies, including Elly & Jools, All Saints, Water Rats, Ned, and Son of Mask

Herriman also appeared in the Walt Disney movie The Lone Ranger in 2013 sharing the screen with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Armie Hammer. He was also cast on the Russell Crowe directorial debut movie The Wate Diviner in 2014. He was honored by Orry-Kelly Award for his contributes to Australia's National identity in 2018. 

In 2019, he shared the screen with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
