Born in Israel

One of the most influential economists in the world, Daniel Kahneman was born in the mid 1930s in Tel Aviv, Israel. He was raised in Paris, France. His father died of diabetes in 1944. His nationality is American and Israeli and has Lithuanian ethnicity. 

1954

Graduated from Hebrew University of Jerusalem

In the early 1950s, Daniel was enrolled at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. There he majored in psychology and also had a minor in mathematics. He finally earned his Bachelor of Science degree from there in 1954. He also studied PhD in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

1961

Began his academic career at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

In the early 1950s, he worked for the Israeli Defense Forces and that was in the psychology department. In 1961, he joined Hebrew University of Jerusalem and this time not as a student but as a lecturer in psychology.

1965

Was a visiting scientist at University of Michigan

In 1960s, he taught not only in Hebrew University of Jerusalem but also in several universities around the world. In 1965, he joined University of Michigan as a visiting scientist. In 1968, he was in Cambridge as the Applied Psychology Research Unit. 

1971

Published his first paper with Amos Tversky

In 1970s, he collaborated with Amos Tversky. They became close after he had invited Tversky to give a guest lecturer in Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Their first paper Belief in the Law of Small Numbers was published in 1971.

1978

Married to Anne Treisman
