Daryl Dragon, Captain & Tennille Singer, Dies at Age 76

Daryl Dragon, the musician who was one half of popular '70s duo Captain & Tennille, died on Wednesday, January 2, his publicist Harlan Boll confirmed. He was 76.

As for the cause of death, Harlan said the singer died due to renal failure at a hospice in Prescott, Arizona.

His wife and fellow group singer, Toni Tennille, who was with him when he died said in remembrance of her ex-husband husband, "He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him".

Daryl was from a musical family. His father was an Academy Award-winning composer while his mother was a singer.

Daryl and Toni had first met in 1971 when the songstress hired him to play piano for a musical "Mother Earth."

The pop duo's first album included the hit single "Love Will Keep Us Together," which was atop the Billboard chart for multiple weeks. Their other hits include "Muskrat Love" and "Do That to Me One More Time".

The couple became married in 1975, just one year after they signed a deal with A&M Records. They got split in 2013 before finalizing their divorce in 2014. However, they remained close friends.

Daryl is survived by his brother, Doug Dragon, and two nieces, Renee Henn and Kelly Arbout.

Donations have been asked in the name of the late musician for organizations to do research into brain diseases and Parkinson's Disease or post-traumatic stress disorder.
