David Tenant is a Scottish actor and also a voice-over artist. He is popular in the world as the tenth actor to play the main role in the British television show Doctor Who. He received National Television Award for Special Recognition in January 2015.
He was born in Bathgate, the United Kingdom to Alexander "Sandy" McDonald (1937–2016),[3] a minister who served as the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, and Helen McLeod (1940–2007). He also has loving grandparents, William and Agnes Blair.
He was enrolled at Ralston Primary and Paisley Grammar School and he also attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Tenant grew up loving television with his older siblings, brother Blair and sister Karen.
Interested in acting since his childhood, David acted in an anti-smoking film made by the Glasgow Health Board at the age of 16. Then, he appeared in an episode of Dramarama. His first major TV role came in the Scottish drama series Takin' Over the Asylum (1994) as the manic-depressive Campbell.
Frequently performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, David also appeared as Antipholus of Syracuse in The Comedy of Errors and Captain Jack Absolute in The Rivals, and the tragic role of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet.
In 2005, David replaced Christopher Eccleston in the second series of Doctor Who as the ninth doctor after the show returned that year and worked in the Doctor Who till 2010.
On November 23, 2013, he returned to Doctor Who for the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor alongside then-stars Billie Piper, Matt Smith, and Jenna-Louise Coleman and guest star John Hurt.
