Diane Sawyer was born on December 22, 1945 in Glasgow, Kentucky, United States to Jean W. and Erbon Powers "Tom" Sawyer.  Her mother was an elementary school teacher while her father was a Judge. 

1969

Her Father was killed in car Accident

Her father Tom Sawyer was a judge who was killed in car accident in 1969. E. P.A Park in Louisville known as "Tom" Sawyer State Park is made in his honor. They left Kentucky and moved to Louisville where her father became famous as a Republican politician.

1967

Graduated from Wellesley College

She is a graduate from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1967. She is a Bachelor's degree holder with Major in English. She studied at Seneca High School and was also an editor-in-chief for a school Newspaper Arrow.

 She started her career as a weather forecaster for WLKY-TV in 1967. Just after her graduation from Wellesley College, she started her job on WLKY-TV. She was later promoted to general assignment post, but she left soon on 1970.

1970

Become White House press aide

She left her job at WLKY-TV and moved to Washington D.C. but could not find her job as Journalist. She then tried at government offices and interviewed for them. Suddenly she was selected as assistance in White House deputy secretary.

1974

Become Literary assistant to President

Initially, she was working on press release and gradually she was promoted to preparing drafts for President Nixon's public statements. She worked as Literary assistant to President Richard Nixon from 1974 to 1978. Until president Nixon gave resignation from his post.

1978

Started working as CBS reporter and correspondent

She started working as general assignment reporter for CBS News from 1978. She was gradually upgraded and became first lady correspondent on 60 minutes, a CBS crime investigation- television Newsmagazine in 1984. The program was top five most watched in the country.

1989

moved to ABC News

She co-anchored Primetime newsmagazine an ABS News program from 1989 and also started co-anchoring 20/20 later from 1998. She worked as co-anchor in various popular program of ABC News including Primetime live, Primetime Thursday, and Good Morning America and so on.

2014

Left Anchoring

She left anchoring from September, 2014. After anchoring so many programs, it was announced she is stepping down from anchor chair from September 2014. But she will remain in ABC News and will be engaged on creating and conducting interviews.
