Don Grierson, A&R Executive Who Signed Singer Celine Dion, Dies At Age 77

Don Grierson, a notable A&R executive who signed Celine Dion for the first time to Epic Records, died on January 23. He was 77.

While working with The Beatles for Capitol Records, he received a Golden Apple Award.

Grierson had been working at Younk before he passed away. Younk is a company that he co-founded as his vision of music creation and community involvement in 2018.

“As a Lead Expert, he helped boost, develop and release young talent all over the world,” read a statement from the company. “We truly believe that his input was priceless and that [he] will forever be our guiding star in the Universe of Music.”

Grierson, who was born in the United Kingdom, initially worked as a local radio DJ in Australia when he was 18. He later moved to the United States and worked as a promotion executive for various labels.

During his half-century-long career, he worked with legendary artists including, Michael Jackson, Kim Carnes, Kate BushSheena Easton, Kenny Rogers, Joe Cocker (died in December 2014), Melba Moore and George Clinton.

He had also worked with numerous popular bands such as J. Geils BandHeart and W.A.S.P.

Grierson also helped many other artists Tina Turner, Bob Seger, Anne Murra, Duran Duran, Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper and Alice Cooper in music field.
