Duane's life took a turning point after he served five years at the Texas State Penitentiary, an American prison, as he was charged as the murderer of a drug dealer named Jerry Oliver, in a struggle during a deal to buy marijuana.

At the prison, Duane Chapman began working as the warden's barber and was also involved in the fieldwork. At that time a congratulatory remark by a correctional officer inspired him to become a bounty hunter. Afterward, Duane worked as Bunty Hunter along with his two sons, Leland Champman and Tim Chapman.

The diligent Duane came to the limelight after he captured a dangerous criminal, Andrew Lusterdruggist and rapist in Puerto, Vallarta, Mexico. He succeeded to capture Luster with the help of his two sons. After capturing Andre Luster, Duane faced lots of challenges in his life, and during that time he also appeared on numerous media shows.
