Thomas started his footballer career from his high school life, he first played from West Orange-Stark Mustangs high school football team. At that time, Thomas scored 112 tackles with 11 interceptions, two kickoff return touchdowns and two punt return touchdowns, with 1,850 rushing yards and 2,140 receiving yards.
After high school, Thomas moved to the "The University of Texas at Austin" in 2008, where he played for Mack Brown's Texas Longhorns football team. During college career, Thomas played 13 games, and he gained the second position with 63 tackles and 17 pass breakups.
