Earl Thomas Conley, Country Hitmaker and Hero to Blake Shelton, Dies At Age 77
Earl Thomas, the country hitmaker and hero to Blake Shelton, died this week. He was 77.
His death was confirmed by Shelton, 42, who said Thomas passed away in Nashville on Wednesday, April 10.
Thomas was best known for his ’80’s hits What I’d Say, Once In a Blue Moon and Holding Her and Loving You.
Shelton refers to Thomas as his "favorite singer, hero, and friend." The pair, who collaborated to co-write the singer's Top 20 hit All Over Me in 2002, had been friends for years.
Shelton paid tribute to the late actor in a touching post on Instagram. Alongside a photo of himself and Thomas smiling during a performance, he wrote, "My heart is absolutely destroyed today… I’m sad to report that Earl Thomas Conley passed away very early this morning."
He added,
Earl was my all time favorite singer, hero and my friend. Prayers to his family. We will all miss you deeply my brother. Now go rest…

Thomas died Wednesday morning at 12:20 a.m. months after being treated at hospice care. As for the cause of death
The exact cause of death has not been revealed, however, the country star had reportedly been suffering from a condition similar to dementia.
