First 'Gender Free' Category'; Emma Watson wins Best Actor at MTV Awards

Smriti Rai Tue May, 2017

A new transition is made with MTV Awards 2017. From this year MTV is merging the male and female categories to neutral gender. The tradition of providing best actor and best actress awards has now taken a high road opting for a single-gender neutral acting category.

Emma Watson won the first ever non-gender MTV Movie Award over the strongest nominees like Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy. Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is a British actress, model, and activist. The 27 years old Emma was born in Paris, France and got trained as an actor at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts.

MTV built a new history implying the gender-free categories; a good decision indeed. What Emma has to say about it after becoming the first lucky person to win the award for her role as Belle in Beauty And The Beast.

She gave a beautiful, dignified, well thought out speech. That's why we love Emma.

Emma who debuted as Hermione in the Harry Potter movie helped her receive the limelight. She is also a feminist campaigner and UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador. She added her view on her film saying;

"I think I'm being given this award because of who Belle is and what she represents. The villagers in our fairytale wanted to make Belle believe the world was smaller than the way that she saw it, with fewer opportunities for her. I love playing someone who didn't listen to any of that,"
