Norton is an open gay. From 2010, he began his love affairs with Trevor Patterson. They dated each other for about three years and they finally broke up in 2013. He also attacked Irish broadcaster RTÉ for their decision against gay marriage.
After that Norton began dating Andrew Smith. They also expressed their desire to get married within few years but rather they split up ending their relationship in November 2015.
Norton received is formal education from Bandon Grammar School. His completing his secondary education from there, he joined University College. There he majored in English and French but he was not able to receive a degree from there as he dropped out from there within two years. During his early days, he worked as a waiter. In 1992, he began his stand up career. Few months later, he also made his broadcasting debut. He began appearing in BBC Radio 4 show Loose Ends as a comedian and panelist. After that he began hosting the show, late-night TV talk show. The actual figure about his salary is unknown but his net worth is said to be around $30 million.
