A native of New York City, New York, Harvey Weinstein was born on 19th of March 1952, to a Jewish family. His father Max Weinstein and mother Miriam were diamond cutters by profession. He raised alongside his younger brother, Bob Weinstein in a housing co-op called Electcher in New York City.
Upon graduation from "John Bowne High School," Weinstein enrolled at "University at Buffalo" and earned an honorary SUNY Doctorate of Humane Letters in a ceremony at Buffalo.
In 1979, Harvey Weinstein co-founded an American entertainment company, “Miramax” alongside his brother, Bob Weinstein. The company is famous for producing and distributing television shows and films. As a producer, Weinstein's debut movie is The Burning.
He produced several movies among which “Pulp Fiction,” “Clerk,” “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” are super hit. Furthermore, he received an Academy Award for producing “Shakespeare in Love," as well as garnered seven Tony Awards for producing a several of winning plays and musicals, including August: Osage Country, Billy Elliot the Musical, and The Producers.
In 2005, the Weinstein brothers left Miramax and formed their own production company, “The Weinstein Company” with several other media executives/directors Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, and Colin Vaines, who fruitfully run the production department at Miramax for decades.
Regarding his nationality, Weinstein is an American, and he belongs to the white ethnicity. Moving into his personal life, he married twice. His first wife was his assistant, Eva Chilton. The couple blessed with three children: Remy, Emma, and Ruth. After sharing the precious moments of life, for 17 years the couple divorced.
He then married Georgina Chapman, an English former fashion designer, and actress. They together have a daughter, India Pear and a son Dashiell.
Recently, The New Yorker and the New York Times reported that more than a dozen women accused him of sexually harassing, assaulting, or raping them. The article also reported that he has paid off settlements to Actresses Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd, Italian model Ambra Battilana and many other female employees of Weinstein and Miramax company.
Furthermore, many famous celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Katherine Kendall, Gwyneth Paltrow and Judith Godreche, have also raised their voice to accuse him of making unwanted sexual advances.
As a consequence of these accusations, Harvey expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, got fired from his own production company, leading figures in politics whom he had supported denounced him, as well as his wife Georgina Chapman left him.
Currently, Harvey has an estimated net worth of $150 million. His main source of income is the entertainment industry.
