Hore Makoare is one of the five children of a New Zealander actor Lawrence Makoare. Lawrence Makoare is best known for starring the role of Lurtz in an epic high fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Hore's father Lawrence is an actor. Before Lawrence began his acting career, he worked as a road construction builder. One day he took a drama class with his girlfriend and luckily the drama teacher was impressed by his towering height and was offered to perform in the class. Initially, he was a stuntman but later he began playing villainous roles. In 1994, he portrayed the role of Atta in the movie Rapa-Nui. Half a decade later, he also starred in the movie What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? where he starred the role of Grunt. Later on he appeared in the movies like Greenstone, The Price of Milk, The Feathers of Peace and so on. He got his rise in fame in 2001 after he portrayed the role of Lurtz in an epic high fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He is also critically acclaimed for his role in the movies like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and so on. He is now aged 48 years old.
