Edward Joseph Snowden, a.k.a. Edward Snowden, is an American computer professional who has had a very controversial past. Labeled both hero and a villain, he is a former employee at Central Intelligence Agency and is both praised and criticized for copying and leaking confidential information from the National Security Agency in 2013

Born on 21st June 1983, the 35-year-old currently resides in Moscow, Russia and is estimated to have a net worth of $8.6 million and also makes hundred thousand of dollars monthly.

As of 2018, Snowden has an estimated net worth of $8.6 million which is quite shocking for someone who is considered a criminal in the United States.

As reported by the Guardian, while working for CIA, he made hundred thousands of dollars on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, he is not affiliated to the organization nor is welcomed in the United States but still makes $200,000 monthly just by making public appearances. This marks his annual salary to an estimated $2.4 million and not every one of happy with it. 

There are numerous new and articles that question why he is making such a massive sum despite his reputation.

However, he is making a decent living and reportedly shares an apartment in Moscow with his girlfriend, Lindsay Mills. Well, that's some lavish use of such a massive net worth.

Edward Snowden Career, and Controversy

Edward Snowden started working for CIA in 2006 as an IT professional. He was determined to not work there permanently, and therefore, began to collect documents as he came to find out that the surveillance system infiltrated the privacy of Americans. 

He was fired from CIA after the authorities became suspicious of his actions. He started working for Dell in Japan's NSA offices and worked there till 2013

Later on, he started serving Booze Allen Hamilton, and while he worked there, he began to break into their system's top vaults. While working for the company for just three months, he collected all the information required to prove his point. 

As his collection was complete, he took a medical leave and arranged a meeting with The Guardian's journalists and Laura Poitras, a documentary filmmaker in Hong Kong. 

He officially revealed the information to the entire world in 2013 through the outlet proving that phones of Americans were being tapped without their knowledge and that some were even under high surveillance.

This shocked the world, and NSA grew bitter towards him. The US government, on the other hand, responded to the action quickly and deported Edward from the United States accusing him of theft of government properties and illegal communication of intelligence information to an unauthorized person

He then moved to Russia and had to stay at the airport for months because of passport issues. However, the Russian government let him stay in the country and rejected requests from America to hand him over. 

Many claim him to be a hero and even started a petition to free him of all charges of the former President Barack Obama. Snowden himself and many other human rights groups have requested the government to pardon his mistakes, but the requests have been left unheard. 

He currently resided in Moscow, Russia with his girlfriend. Likewise, in 2014, a documentary based on Snowden's life titled Citizenfour was made by Poitras. The movie gained massive applause and even ended up winning an Oscar Award
