Jackson started performing with a high tenor singing voice and also added brief lead parts in numerous singles of Jackson's 5, a popular band including "I Want You Back" and "ABC." In 1973, he released a solo album, which became failed to gain ranked on Billboard chart. Jackson along with his brother Michael Jackson, added a lead vocal on their top ten songs, Enjoy Yourself. One of his huge hit is Can You Feel It.

Later, Jackson started performing as a lead vocalist. While he was writing a single, Torture, he given a lead voice on the song, Wait. Before Jackson could start the Victory Tour in 1984, he suffered a leg injury, which was officially described as a knee injury incurred during rehearsals. After sometimes, he was recovered well which was enough to perform on the last leg of shows in December 1984 in Los Angeles. During the show, Michael announced that he was leaving the group.

During this time Jackson, Tito Jackson and Randy Jackson became session musicians, producers, and vocalists. In 1987, he along with Randy, Tito, and Jermaine recorded a song  "Time Out for the Burglar," for a Canadian and American movie, Burglar.

The movie was directed by Hugh Wilson and distributed by Warner Bros, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, and John Goodman. His single song became a hit and peaked the Top 40 for two consecutive weeks. Currently, he lives in Las Vegas, and run two record companies, Jesco Records, and Futurist Entertainment.
