Jacoby Ellsbury was born as Jacoby McCabe Ellsbury on 11 September 1983. He was born to an American parent, Jim Ellsbury and Margie Ellsbury in Madras, Oregon, USA. Talking about his nationality, he is an American citizen and is the first Native American of Navajo ethnicity to reach the major leagues. He attended the  Madras High School and graduated from the Oregon State University.

Jacoby Ellsbury made his professional MLB debut on June 30, 2007, representing his newly signed team Boston Red Sox against the Texas Rangers. He was ranked as the 13th-best prospect in baseball by Baseball America in 2008. He stole his 32nd base of the season, breaking the club record set hundred years ago by Amby McConnell on 15 June 2008. On 30 May 2013, Jacoby set a franchise record for most stolen bases in a game with five. Jacoby signed with the New York Yankees on 3 December 2013 for seven years. He made his team debut on 23 April 2014, against his former team Boston Red Sox and received boos from Red Sox fans. He suffered knee injuries in 2015. Thus, he couldn't appear in most of the games. He still plays for the club.
