James Arthur was born on December 11, 1931, in Gordon, Georgia, the United States. He was raised by his parents in his birthplace along with his siblings. He is one of the popular people from Savannah, Georgia, who has played an active role in the preservation of Savannah's historic district.
When James was 24 years old, he bought and restored his first three houses, at 541, 543 and 545, of East Congress Street. Over a period of more than 35 years, the preservationist has gone on to restore over 50 homes in Savannah as well as the Lowcountry of Georgia and South Carolina.
Later James bought a house originally built for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, the great-grandfather of popular American songwriter Johnny Mercer. When he bought the Mercer House, it had been totally vacant for almost a decade. Within two years, James painstakingly restored the house and start living there.
James is an American by nationality and belongs to white ethnicity. He was arrested by the police for the shooting death of Danny Hansford, with whom he had a sexual relationship. After the subsequent four trials, he was acquitted by a jury in Augusta, Georgia, the United States.
There is no additional information regarding his affairs and girlfriends. Going by his sexual orientation he was either gay or bisexual. Six months into the Hansford trial, he died on January 14, 1990, in his home due to pneumonia and heart failure.
Although we know that James bought, restored and owned a number of historic properties and houses in his lifetime, we do not have enough information regarding his net worth.
