Janel McCarville attended the Stevens Point Area Senior High School before joining the University of Minnesota. At Stevens, Janel was honored as an AAU All-American and a member of 2001 all-state first team, and she also shared the award, Wisconsin Player of the year with renowned women basketball player, Mistie Williams.
After completing her education from Stevens, McCarville started playing for the University of Minnesota, Golden Gophers. At that time, she was among the top five players for Golden Gopher. As a result of her hard work, McCarville title with the most rebounds player in tournaments with 75 rebounds in 5 games.
As of now, Talented and Hardworking, Janel McCarville played for Women's National Basketball Association's (WNBA) teams such as Charlotte Sting, Good Angles Kosice, New York Liberty, Minnesota Lynx, etc.
Currently, Janel is playing for AIS basket. Likewise, she has also won several titles such as WNBA champion, Euro League Champion, and WNBA Most Improved Player. Besides that, she also appeared in International Women's Basketball Team.
As of now Gopher is single and she keeps most of her personal life secretly but she feels that she is very open about her personal life and in 2011, she openly and proudly mentioned herself aa Lesbian In Curve Magazine.
