For higher educatiton, Zeleny attended the University of Nebraska, where he learned journalism and political science and graduated in 1996. During his student time in university, he was also the editor of the Daily Nebraskan, which was a school newspaper. He was also interested in playing the trumpet for the University of Nebraska Cornhusker Marching Band.
Jeffrey Dean did his internship for various newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, the Florida Times-Union and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Jeffrey then started work for the "The Des Moines" registered in 1996, even though he planned to be a sports reporter, he became a political specialist. In 2000, he left politics and joined The Chicago Tribune as a writer. He then covered the news for 2012 presidential election as a reporter.
He was hired in February 2013 by ABC News for the post of senior Washington correspondent and his other duties were to put the stories on the website. Later in March 2015, he joined CNN, after CNN he was named Senior White House Correspondent in 2017.
