Jessica Lange is an American actress and has won several awards; two Academy Awards, Five Golden Globe Awards, three Emmy Awards, and many others.
Jessica was born on April 20, 1949, in Cloquet, Minnesota, to Albert John Lange and Dorothy Florence. She has a younger brother and two elder sisters. Her father was a traveling salesman, and due to the nature of his profession, Jessica and her family were always on the move.
Jessica studied and graduated from Cloquet High School, and in 1967, she got a scholarship to study art and photography at the University of Minnesota. She then moved from the United States to Paris with her then-husband Paco Grande where she studied mime theatre and joined Opéra-Comique as a dancer.
After her return to New York in 1973, she got her breakthrough role in the movie King Kong in 1975, when producer Dino De Laurentiis contacted her modeling agency. The movie was a huge success but had negative reviews for Jessica.
In 1979, she again got a role in an autobiography named All That Jazz, and the director Bob Fossee especially wrote a part for her. She then got a lead role in the comedy movie How to Beat the High Cost of Living. Her major movie was The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) in which she played the role of Cora alongside Jack Nicholson, who was married to Sandra Knight.
She then acted in Frances, a biopic which earned her a nomination for Best Actress. She has won an Oscar for best-supporting actress for the comedy film Tootsie(1982). In 1994, she won another Academy Award as best actress for drama Blue Sky(1994). Her role of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire (1995) also earned her a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award nomination Her other notable movies include Sweet Dreams (1984), and Music Box (1989).
Jessica has also acted in many other movies like Losing Isaiah(1995), Thousand Acres(1997), Titus(1999), Normal(2003) and Broken Flowers(2005) alongside Bill Murray.
She has also been a part of the successful television series. She played Edie Ewing Beale in Grey Gardens, where she acted with Drew Barrymore and also won an Emmy Award for her work. She also got an Emmy for her supporting role in American Horror Story. Her other works in TV include Long Day's Journey Into Night and the FX's series Feud.
Talking about her personal life, Lange was married in 1970 to photographer Francisco "Paco" Grande with whom she divorced in 1981. She then got in a relationship with Mikhail Baryshnikov, a ballet dancer from 1976-1982 and together she gave birth to her first daughter, Aleksandra "Shura" Baryshnikov in 1981.
Then in 1982, she started her relationship with actor and playwright Sam Shephard, With him, she has two children, Hannah(1985) and Samuel(1987). The couple separated in 2009, and their divorce was finalized in 2011.
Jessica has also published two books namely 50 Photographs and In Mexico. She is also a writer of children's picture book, It’s About a Little Bird. Her net worth as of 2018 is estimated to be $15 million.
