Joel McHale is an American comedian, actor, and television host famous for hosting the TV show The Soup. Likewise, he is also known for portraying Jeff Winger on the NBC/Yahoo! Sitcom community. Joel Mchale was born Joel Edward Mchale, on November 20, 1971, in Rome, Italy, to father Jack McHale and mother Laurie. His mother is from Vancouver, Canada, and his father comes from Chicago, Illinois. He was raised Catholic.
Joel was raised in Mercer Island, Washington, where he attended Mercer Island High School. Joel Mchale received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington History, in 1995. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Professional Actors Training Program, at the University of Washington.

As far as his professional endeavors are concerned, he was, in the beginning, a part of a local sketch-comedy television show. Joel Mchale later worked in an improv group at Unexpected Productions, participating in Theatersports before landing roles in popular shows.
Career
After completing his master's, he moved to Los Angeles and started his career with small roles in Diagnosis: Murder, starring Dick Van Dyke, CSI: Miami, starring David Caruso and Emily Procter, and Will and Grace, featuring Eric McCormack and Debra Messing.
He also guest-starred in the NBC improv comedy show Thank God You’re Here, hosted by Dave Foley, as a cast member. Jole Mchale also appeared in Spider-man 2 as Mr. Jacks, a bank manager, acting alongside Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
Eventually, in 2004, Joel Mchale began hosting the Soup on the ‘e!’ television network. He was also a judge on Iron Chef America. Similarly, Joel Mchale appeared on the Adam Carolla Show as a weekly guest and as an occasional guest on the Opie and Anthony Show.
He also made a guest appearance on Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Likewise, he has also starred in the sitcom Community, alongside Alison Brie, which premiered in the winter of 2009.

Moreover, Joel Mchale also hosted the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards and 2015 ESPY Awards, and 43rd People’s Choice Awards, on January 18, 2017. He co-hosted alongside Kelly Ripa in the ABC morning show Live! With Kelly in 2016.
Joel Mchale hosted the 2017 Webby Awards on May 15, 2017, and it was announced that he will be receiving his own talk show on Netflix.
