John Galliano attended Wilson’s Grammar School and later studied at St. Anthony School where he also served as a dresser for Britain’s National Theatre. He finished his graduation from Saint Martin’s School of Art where he earned a first-class honors degree in Fashion Design. As a fashion student, his first collection entitled "Les Incroyables" was inspired by French Revolution which was later bought for resale in the London Fashion Boutique Browns. Well, very soon, with financial backers, he opened his own label and his collection was both dramatic and intricate. However, within a few year, his business shut down due to lack of business prowess and he went bankrupt.
After that, John struggled financially for more than a year. But he didn’t give up and worked hard and finally gained the support of American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Vogue’s creative director for the American edition, Andre Leon Talley. With their help, he was later appointed as head designer of Givenchy after he was introduced to the Portuguese fashion patron Sao Schlumberger where he designed the collection from one bolt of Fabric.
Further, he moved to Christian Dior where he became well known for his own dramatic final-bow-costumes. He created some of the industry’s most popular collections, which includes the Blanches Dubois, the Napoleon, Josephine, and Princess Lucretia.
However, his career went down because of his alleged racist comments to the public at Paris café. This controversy hampered his career as he was dismissed by Dior. Despite these up and down in his professional life, John was able to make a successful comeback a few years later through Paris-based fashion house Maison Margiela.
Popular fashion designer, Galliano belongs to white ethnicity and holds a British nationality. However, information regarding his personal life such as his affair, girlfriend, and married life is still the subject of curiosity.
