John Goodwin was always surrounded by the atmosphere of Ice hockey, thus he was interested in playing hockey since his childhood, where his only dream was to be a professional hockey player. On the other hand, John parents also supported him gradually before entering on hockey sphere.
In his early age, Goodwin had a successful career for the Sault Ste Marie, junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League. Then, John won the William Hanley Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player. In the year 1978-79 OMJHL league, he won the Emms Family Award as the top first-year player.
John Goodwin played five full seasons in the American Hockey League; three times with Nova Scotia Voyageurs team, one with New Haven Nighthawks team and last one with the St.Catharines Saints. After that, Goodwin gave his performance for two seasons in the International Hockey League (1995-2001) with Peoria Rivermen team.
John Goodwin retired as an ice hockey player and gave his 3 years to the Junior ice hockey team Oshawa Generals a Coach. Currently, he is an assistant coach of the Kingston Frontenacs, junior ice hockey team.
