John Rockwell was born in 1940 in Washington, D.C. He is an American music critic, editor, arts administrator and dance critic. Born in a middle-class family, John spent his early childhood in Washington.

1972

began writing at The New York Times

In 1972, Rockwell began writing at The New York Times, first as a classical music critic and reporter. After then, John served as the paper's chief pop music critic.

1994

served as director of the Lincoln Center Festival

In 1994, John Rockwell worked as the first director of the Lincoln Center Festival. He worked there more than three years and left the job. Then, John joined  'The New York Times''.

John Rockwell was talented in the academics, since his childhood and achieved a huge experience during his college and university. After completing his education, John Rockwell started his journalism career at the Oakland Tribune, daily newspaper and the Los Angeles Times, a daily Newspaper.

Then after, John started writing a classical music critic and reporting to the ''New York Times''. Further, he worked as the paper's chief pop music critic. Similarly, he worked as the European cultural correspondent for two years.

Along with this, Rockwell also worked as the first director of the ''Lincoln Center Festival''. After that, John returned to the The New York Times as an editor of the paper's Sunday Arts and Leisure section; however, he left the Times at the end of 2006 to pursue independent projects.

Besides, John started working at ''WHRB'', a commercial radio station at Harvard as well as in KPFA, musical radio station in Berkeley. Additionally, John has published several books such as All American music, The idiots, and much more. 

Talking about his personal life, John Rockwell married girlfriend, Linda Mevorach. Currently, the couple has a beautiful daughter, Sasha, presently studying in the Shanghai. And Joh and his spouse live a blissful life without any news or traces of divorce.
