Josh interested in music and his source of inspiration is his brother, Charles Kelly, a musician and singer. He along with his brother formed a band, Inside Blue and released five songs, which led them to James Brown, an American singer, songwriter, producer, and bandleader.
Kelley signed with Hollywood Records in 2002, after releasing his independent album, Changing faces, in 2001. He released his second album, For the Ride Home, in 2003 where his song "Amazing" gets successfully hit and earned wide recognition. In 2009, Josh signed with MCA Nashville and released his first single album "Georgia Clay" to a country radio which became a Top 20 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Moving towards his personal life, Josh Kelley married to his long-term girlfriend Katherine Heigl, an actress, in 2007. They met each other in 2005; when she appeared in his music video "Only You." Firstly, the couple engaged in 2006 and completed their marriage ceremony at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah, in 2007.
Josh and Katherine adopted a South Korean baby girl Nancy Leigh in 2009 and another daughter Adalaide Marie Hope in 2012. The couple welcomed their first child, Joshua Bishop Kelley Jr, in 2016. They are living happily together along with their children and they have no sign or rumors of divorce.
