Julia Somerville is a journalist and newsreader who has a long and successful career experience with BBC. Since 1972, She is regularly been active in the field of journalism. The public recognized her from BBC Nine o’clock news, ITV Lunchtime News, ITV News at Ten, and Rip off Britain.
After graduation, Somerville joined publisher IPC, working on Homes and Gardens magazine, a Women's Journal, the PR section of Women’s Own. Then for two years, she took on the job as an editor of a computer group's house magazine. Somerville joined the BBC in 1972 as a sub-editor in the radio newsroom and then became a reporter in 1978. In 1981, she became a labor Affairs correspondent and joined BBC Television News in 1983.
Julia Somerville has been married three times in her life. She was married to Stephen Band in 1970 and got the divorce in 1975, Ray Gowdridge, with whom she had two children, from 1984 to 1992, and later, Sir Jeremy Dixon, after that she is also recognized as Lady Dixon.
