Tong was talented since a young age. She joined Bryn Mawr College as an undergraduate student on an academic scholarship. There she majored in English literature and she also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from there. She joined Stanford University after she got admitted in doctoral program with a major in Chinese and Japanese literature.

Joined KPIX-TV

While she was in Stanford University, she induced her desire in broadcasting and then she joined KPIX-TV All-News Radio as morning editor and producer. She worked there for about a year as a street reporter.

Kaity Tong is a Chinese American broadcast journalist, news anchor and presenter.  At the end of 1979, she joined KCRA-TV and began serving them as a co-anchor. Within short period of times, she became one of the renowned TV personalities in the world.

She is famous for being a television news anchor in New York City. From 1981, she began working at WABC-TV. In 1983, she was announced the co-anchor of the station's 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.

Kaity Tong was born on July 23, 1947, in Qingdao, China, to parents; father George Tong and mother Anita Tong, who was a broadcaster and producer for Voice of America in Washington.

She was raised in Washington, D.C., and became a United States citizen in 1985. She is of American nationality and belongs to the Asian ethnicity. 

She was inspired to enter journalist by her great-uncle Hollington Tong who was an ambassador of the US from China.

Tong studied at Bryn Mawr College on an academic scholarship and she completed her graduation with a bachelor of arts degree in English literature.

Career & Awards

Kaity Tong was talented since her childhood. She induced her desire in broadcasting and then joined KPIX-TV All-News Radio as morning editor and producer. She worked there for a year as a street reporter.

In late 1979, she joined KCRA-TV and served there as a co-anchor. From 1981, she started working at WABC-TV. She has also famously worked as a newscaster for Wolf, City Hall, Marci X and Night Falls.

In early 1992, she joined WPIX as a top female anchor and has been serving there ever since. She co-anchored the station's 10 p.m. show along with Marvin Scott from January 1992 to September 1992, along with Jack Cafferty from September 1992 to October 1998, and along with Jim Watkins from October 1998 to 2010.

Kaity has received the Exceptional Achievement Award from The Women's Project. In 2018, she was awarded the Governor's Emmy Award.

Kaity Tong has been married twice in her life. She was first married to Robert Long who is a former news director. Robert is best known for serving as the vice president at Los Angeles's KNBC-TV.

The pair shares a child, a son named Philip Long, together. Unfortunately. they later ended their marital relationship with a divorce.

Following the divorce, Tong went on to date with a new boyfriend Patrick Callahan. They enjoyed a romantic relationship with each other and eventually tied the knot.

Patrick Callahan is a professional photographer and they are now married. She is happy to have him as her loving spouse. The family of three is living happily together without any divorce rumors.
