Khabib Nurmagomedov is the undisputed champion in the UFC Lightweight division. He is well known for winning the match against the notorious Conor McGregor in UFC 229 on October 6th, 2018.
Khabib Nurmagomedov was born in Dagestan, Russia on the 20th of September in 1998. He is the son of athlete and former army-man Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Abdulmanap currently serves as the senior coach for the Republic of Dagestan. His mother's name is still unknown, and talking about his family, he has an older brother whose name is Magomed and a smaller sister named Amina.
The undisputed champion gained inspiration in fighting when he used to watch his father train other students at the gym that they owned in Kirovaul. He started training under the guidance of his father at the early age of 8, and by the time he was nine, he had already wrestled a bear.
His family later moved to Makhachkala, where he started training in wrestling at 12, and three years later, he was into judo. Khabib was 17 when he commenced his training in combat sambo, under his father.
Khabib made his professional debut in September 2008, as an MMA fighter and quickly bagged 4 wins in a month. By the end of October of that same year, Khabib had become the Atrium Cup tournament champion, defeating all three of his opponents in Moscow.
In 2011, Nurmagomedov signed a contract with UFC, where he would fight six matches in the lightweight division. There, he defeated Kamla Shalorus, Gleison Tibau, Thiago Tavares, Abel Trujillo, Pat Healy, and Rafael dos Anjos respectively.
Khabib was supposed to fight Tony Fergusson at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale held on the 11th of December, 2015, but owing to Khabib's injury, the match was pulled off and was replaced with Edson Barboza. The match was later scheduled for April 16, 2016, but this time it was Tony who got off the fight due to health issues relating to his lungs. Ferguson was replaced by Darrell Horcher, who lost the fight by TKO to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib showed huge displeasure when his contract to face the then UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez, who is married to Jamie Alvarez, was called off. Instead, it was Conor McGregor, who was TKOed by Floyd Mayweather who got the title against Eddie Alvarez. His other wins include matches against Michael Johnson and Edson Barboza.
Nurmagomedov won the UFC Lightweight Championship title on April 7, 2018, against fighter Al Iaquinta, which he did by a unanimous decision.
His recent fight was against Conor Mcgregor on October 6, 2018, which he did win amidst his controversial behavior. Even though Khabib had already won the match, he went outside the ring to beat Conor's teammate Dillon Dannis. Rumor has it that the champion might be stripped of his belt in the future, due to his formidable behavior.
Khabib has made an impressive record in his career where he has won all 26 of his matches, 8 by knockouts, 8 by submission, and 10 by unanimous decision of the judges.
