Multi-talented, Lou Dobbs was born on September 24, 1945, as Louis Carl Dobbs in Childress, Texas, the United States of America, to Frank Dobbs and Lydia Mae. His father Frank was a co-owner of a propane business. He is an American nationality holder and is of white ethnicity.
While Lou was in Minidoka County, he joined "Minico High School". There he was active in a football team playing tackle. There he also became the student body president.
After he graduated from high school, he joined Harvard University with a major in economics. He finally earned the "Bachelors of Arts" in 1967. During the late 1960s, he worked for federal anti-poverty programs and the Union Bank of California.
