Louis started his career as a comedy writer and wrote comedies for numerous comedians including David Letterman, Dana Carvey, Conan O'Brien, and Chris Rock. He also directed two hit movies Tomorrow Night and Pootie Tang. He also appeared in the short-lived HBO television show, Lucky Louie
