In 2011 Harding didn't allow into the Russia that made him the first foreign journalist to expelled from Russia at the end of the cold war. However, the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov explained at the press conference that no visa had been canceled till date.
The main cause of Harding's visa cancelation is that he broke rules of his press accreditation by visiting the area of counter-terrorism operations without informing the relevant security authorities.
Later in 2016, hardening published a very expensive book about the murder of the Russian ex-KGB whistle-blower. The book received a positive response from various viewers including the Spectator, Guardian, Times, and London Review of Books Robert Fox.
