Talented and enthusiastic guy, Luther Vandross was born as Luther Ronzoni Vandross, Jr. in the early 1950s in New York City, New York, United States of America to Mary Ida Vandross and Luther Vandross, Sr.. His was born and raised in middle class family.

Began playing piano

As his father was an upholsterer and singer, he also grew up with a love and attachment in music. He began playing piano since he was aged three. He had his own phonograph and he began learning music through it.

Graduated from William Howard Taft High School

While he was in Bronx, New York City, he got enrolled at William Howard Taft High School. He also graduated from there in 1969. After graduating from there, he joined Western Michigan University but he dropped out from there within a year.

Sang on Delores Hall's Hall-Mark album

From the early 1970s, he began performing with several musical artists. He featured on the Delores Hall's Hall-Mark album in 1973. In 1975, he wrote the single Fascination. In the early 1970s, he also worked in Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway.

When Luther was eight years old, his father died of diabetes. He was also diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension at the later stage of his life. In the early 2003, he suffered a severe stroke. On July 1, 2005, he died at the JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey and the reason of his death was the hereditary disease diabetes.
